US embassy opens student visa appointments for mid-August campus dates
Those who failed to clean the interview for the first time and rejected the visa can be applied again. The promise for the second chance will be opened in the second half of August, said the embassy
The United States Embassy in India said that the visa gathering promise was available on its website for students who needed to be on campus in mid -August. Interviews for visas F, M and J will take place after August 14, the embassy tweeted.
This step was taken after the government, in a rare step, urged senior US diplomats, Britain, Australia and several other countries to accelerate student visas after getting several letters and complaints about the visa process for too long.
The US Embassy in May has tried to convince students that if they cannot order an appointment at the first trache, it will open a slot for the rest of July and early August.
Student visa interviews were opened earlier this year, because officials hope to issue a higher amount compared to the 62,000 given in 2021 for the fall.
The first visa interview slot opened in May 2022 for the date in June and the first half of July, according to the Economic Times report. In 2021, the US embassy and consulate in India opened a student visa interview on June 14 because of the Covid-19 pandemic after most students received their I-20, he added.
I-20 is a mandatory document issued by an educational institution approved by the US government which states that a student has been treated in a full-time program and has sufficient funds to live in the US. This allows students to apply for US visas.
In relieving students, the embassy also said they could submit a request for a visa if they failed to clean the interview for the first time and rejected the visa. The promise for the second chance will be opened in the second half of August, he added.
